Energizer Night Race-A Happy Ending?

Finally...A happy ending?

I hope so.

After a week of "drama" and massive online protest, the organiser of the Energizer Night Marathon has apologised for the poorly organised race last Saturday. They also agreed to return the registration fee and give each runner their medal,certificate,headlight,T-Shirt and complimentary gifts.Well done Energizer! What you did is right. Many runners are now happy. about the rude Josie Huang, the group director of Expose Media who scolded the runners and labeled them as hooligans?I wasn't there when it happened or else I would give her a piece of my mind!.Probably she scolded the 5.5km/11km group of runners.

This hooligan story reminds me of an incident which happened to a group of us when we were in Form 5.It was during the trial examination period for SPM(Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia). The teacher was not in the class and we were supposed to do our own revision. However we (a bunch of boys) were very noisy and playing in the class.

Suddenly a teacher passed by the class and shouted for everyone to keep quiet. He used the word hooligan on us.One of my friends was very angry. He gathered a few of us as witness and demanded an apology from the teacher. The teacher refused to say sorry and the case was brought to the headmaster attention.

In the headmaster room,my friend apologised to the teacher.Till today he refused to tell us what happened in the room. I believed he was threaten or scolded for accusing a teacher of using inappropriate word.Sad...the teacher made a mistake and he should be brave enough to apologise.By admiting the mistake he would have got our respect in return.

Human beings make mistakes but we must be sincere and brave enough to admit it.Put aside the ego and pride.

The email from Energizer:(they even send me an sms!)

Energizer Night Race 2011-A Disaster!

A Very Unorganized Event...The worst race I ever took part in.This is the main point which I wanted to tell the Energizer Night Race 2011 organiser and I think they have already know by now judging from the runners' response in the Facebook. ***From L-R:Myself,YS,Lau,Steve,Heng and Teng*** I am glad that I did not signed up for the 42km event.Lau,Steve and myself registered for the 21km while Heng and Teng went for the 42km event. We arrived in Sepang quite early,at about 6:15pm.It was a short drive from Seremban using the back way passing through some oil palm plantation. We managed to park our car near to the entrance of the F1 Circuit. It's FOC but some runners were forced to pay RM10 for the parking. How unfortunate!
***Walking towards the F1 Circuit which is very near.Initially we decided to deposit our bags but looking at the long queue of people waiting to deposit the bags, we walked back to put the bags in our cars.***

Our event started at 8.00pm.Total half marathoners were estimated at 1200 people. We ran one loop outside the F1 Circuit and two loops on the F1 circuit.

The outside loop was very dark at certain parts but luckily there was some moonlight and headlights from fellow runners.

The inner loop on the F1 Circuit was much better. The surface was even but the path was undulating. There were few ups and downs along the way.All this while I thought the circuit was totally flat.

I started with Lau but he sprinted off from the start.I caught up with him at about 12km mark.Did not meet any other familiar runners except for Eric who overtook me at the 19km mark.

Finished my 21km with a time of 1h 57 min 30s (my own watch timing).Lau did 2h 6min and Steve finished 2h 30min.

Got the news today that Teng did very well in his maiden marathon, with a time of 4h 22min while Heng who was running his 33rd marathons yesterday finished with a time of 4h 50min.Congratulation to Teng!!

Immediately after finishing I went to my car to get my handphone and my camera.Handphone? call my friends for the lastest Sarawak election update. To my disappointment, the Pakatan did not managed to denied BN a 2/3 majority. The camera? It was for snapping pictures of the chaos situation in the finisher area.

The first havoc situation was during the headlights collection. It was in a small area and hundred of runners were eagerly rushing to get their headlight. There was lots of pushing and I feel sorry for those ladies who were in the crowd.Probably some were groped in the process. It was free for all with no one taking charge of the boxes.Soon there wasn't any headlights for the late comers.

The second havoc situation was after completing my 21km when I proceeded to collect my medal and finisher shirt. There was a big crowd waiting for collection. The goodies bag were separated from medal and T shirts.Seems like the organiser has not packed them together. When the crowd saw some volunteers pushing in a few boxes of finisher T shirt, they went wild.Everyone was rushing for it.

I can't believe it when I saw volunteers throwing goodies bags to the crowd waiting outside the pit. When the crowd rushed in to collect the bags, this might cause a stampede!People can get killed.

Then someone decided to pull down the shutter to prevent more runners from entering the pit.At about the same time, the police arrived and shouted for everyone to get out of the pit.

We reached home at 11:30pm.After a bath and a late dinner,I went online only to discover hundreds of negative and angry comments on Energizer Night Race Facebook site. Many were using the F_ck words and were cursing the organiser.I have never came across so many F_CK words in my whole life. They might be angry but personally I think they shouldn't use vulgar words.

The bad things about this ENR:

too many to write them down. Please be free to surf the FB links.Plenty of comments (hopefully ENR will not delete them)

To be fair...let's write something good about ENR:

1)Weather was good.Ha..ha..ha...

2)The route for 21km was nice.Only 1 loop outside.I prefer to run on the F1 track.

3)ENR was known to be generous with their goodies bag.Plenty of sponsored items.Probably this attracts lots of runners..about 8000 for 5.5km and 11km category.Full marathon only 800 runners with 1200 going for 21km.

Finally,I think the organiser needs to settle the issues of unavailable goodies bag, medals and finisher T shirts as soon as possible. There is a big group of unsatisfied runners out there.

To fellow runners:Please don't use the F_CK word.Everyone must be calm and behave in a civilised manner.Thank You.

Catalyst of Change!

Tomorrow:16th April 2011 is an important day.
Firstly it is the Sarawak Election. The outcome of this election will set the future for Sarawak and also the whole Malaysia.Few people asked me why I am so fired up with Sarawak Election.

The reasons: 1)I have stayed in Sawarak for few years and I have seen the difficult life of the natives there. 2)The other reason was the Al-Kitab issue. Most Christians are very passive when dealing with this issue.

Here is a good message from Martin Jalleh:

I like what he has to say:

(Read the whole message.I only quote 4 of his messages)

1)May your choice reflect the earnest prayer of Christians that the government honor and respect our basic constitutional rights, and not subject them to changes according to political expediency of the moment.

2)The challenge before you goes far beyond that of the recent Bible controversy. It is to express distinctly to the PM the deep disappointment and discontent of Christians being discriminated against over the years.

3)May you champion the common good and be an answer to the longing and prayer of deliverance of the long-suffering people living in long-houses and languishing in abject poverty.

4)May you make it your Christian duty to stand up for the marginalised indigenous peoples of Sarawak who have been deceived, discriminated against, displaced, dislodged, dispossessed, deprived and disempowered.

I believe there will be more votes for the Pakatan Rakyat tomorrow. The younger generation of Sarawakians are more aware of their rights and the discriminations against them. Two days ago,a pastor told me that there is an "unofficial" directive from top church leaders in Sarawak to their congregations on how and who to vote tomorrow.Good!!

Tomorrow is also the Energizer Night Race in Sepang.Luckily I signed up for the 21km run only. With such a little running lately,I am sure to suffer if I will to run the 42km event.Lau and Steve are running in the 21km event while Heng and Teng are going for the 42km. Last year the weather was unkind to runners. It was very hot and humid. It was also my worst marathon outing as I had to stop and rest for few times along the route. Hopefully the weather will be better this year.

Tomorrow is also my convocation day.I have just passed my DFM examination recently.I will give this event a pass as I don't feel the need to attend the event just to receive my scroll. It is only a Diploma certificate.

Sarawakians, be a Catalyst of Change!

Bumi Kenyalang-Ubahlah!!

How can you believe them??See the way they lied and trying to save themself.Often politicians will blame others for what has been their own mistakes.

  • MUKAH: Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud has described the stamping of Bahasa Malaysia Bibles as avery stupid thing to do”. He said the Home Ministry’s decision to stamp serial numbers and certain words on the Bibles should not be applied to Sarawak.

  • Taib stressed that he helped solve the issue when he made his feelings known to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak during the latter’s recent visit to the state. “While the people were making an issue of the serial numbers on the Bibles I had a talk with the prime minister when he was in Sarawak and he promised that he would stop the sacrilege when he returned to Kuala Lumpur,” he said in an emotional speech to more than 3,000 people at the official opening of the St Peter and St Paul’s Roman Catholic Church here yesterday.

  • “I told him it should be stopped and Najib said, ‘Yes, I agree’,” he added. Taib absolved the Federal Government from any blame for the stamping and instead put the blame on lower ranking state officials for misinterpretation of the law. “The PM also agreed it was (misinterpreted),” Taib said, adding that since the dispute had been resolved, it should no longer be an issue.

  • Taib, who spoke very passionately, said Sarawakians should not allow outsiders to disrupt the religious freedom and harmonious co-existence that they had been enjoying so far.

  • Where was he when the Bibles were impounded in the first place? Why didn't he come out with a public statement, instead of keeping quiet until now? If Taib had such strong views on religious freedom and plurality, why was he silent on the Allah issue and now the Al-Kitab, until the elections were announced?

The Star 11th April 2011:

Deputy Prime Minister said BN is never against any religion.

Another lies!!Their action did not reflect by their words.Who started it?

The stamp imprinted onto the New Testaments in Kuching shows what a big ugly mark it really makes: The English translation reads, REMINDER: THISNEW TESTAMENT/PSALMS AND PROVERBSIS FOR THE USE OF CHRISTIANS ONLY. BY ORDER OF THE HOME MINISTER.

  • Notice that the official government stamp/chop is stamped on the bottom left corner, and a serial number is imprinted onto the upper right corner obviously to facilitate the tracking of every Malay Bible used in the community by the government authorities.

  • The special mark reminds me of a prophesy in the Book of Revelation about a Beast that spoke like a dragon rising out of the earth: “Also it [The Beast] causes all, both small and great, both rich and poor, both free and slave, to be marked on the right hand or the forehead, so that no one can buy or sell unless he has the mark, that is, the name of the beast or the number of its name. This calls for wisdom: let the one who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man, and his number is 666” (Revelation 13: 16-17).

  • No one can buy or sell unless he has the mark.” It would be devastating to be unable to buy the necessities of this life without an official mark. It is all the more devastating if one is barred from buying the fundamental necessity for both this life and the life to comeHoly Scriptureunless the book bears an official mark. And horror of horrors! Now Malaysian Christians (and only Christians) cannot buy their Holy Scriptures unless it bears a special mark. Horror of horrors!

  • What if….What if the forerunners of the AntiChrist indeed have come? 1 John 2:18 — Children, it is the last hour, and as you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come. Therefore we know that it is the last hour.

Then you read from our government control media The Star that the bibles issue has been settled. It looks like an attempt to cover up this issue as fast as possible.

  • 9th April 2011 KUALA LUMPUR: The government confirmed on Saturday that the 10-point solution has successfully paved the way for the release of the 35,100 Bibles in Bahasa Malaysia, which were impounded in Port Klang and Kuching

However CFM(Christain Federation Of Malaysia) rejects the government’s proposal on seized Alkitab.

CFM MEDIA STATEMENT can be read here:

  • " As for the copies of the Alkitab that have been impounded and desecrated, we reiterate our position that the action of the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) in stamping the Bibles amounts to an act of defacement, disrespect and treating with disdain the holy book of the Christians"...CFM

What Najib Razak had failed in his capacity as Prime Minister, is to understand the difference between a proposal and a binding regulation or law. A proposal remains a proposal, and is subject to further and future amendments by UMNO. With the unveiling of the proposal being said to be well-timed right before the Sarawak state elections, many believe that UMNO will act according to their wimps and fancies, and conveniently sweep the issue under the carpet after the elections It wouldn’t come as a surprise if the proposal is wiped off after 16th April, and UMNO will start singing to the tune of Perkasa and Ibrahim Ali, who had repeatedly stirred religious and racial tensions by taunting the 10 point proposal. He said yesterday that Malays have been patient forfar too long” and have allowed non-Malays to make excessive demands. The silence and inaction of the Barisan Nasional government over the continuous irresponsible and racist remarks by Perkasa shows to prove that 1Malaysia continues to be overwhelmed by Ketuanan Melayu

To this man named Ibrahim Ali,I want to tell him....DON'T TEST THE PATIENCE OF THE CHRISTIANS!!

KUCHING: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has given his assurance that Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud will step down as Sarawak Chief Minister some time after the state election. Urging the people to trust him, Najib said they should not listen to the Opposition’s claims that Taib would stay on as Chief Minister after the election.

Tell me and also to all Sarawakians...HOW ARE WE GOING TO TRUST YOU??!!!

You have been telling too many lies for too long. You have deceived the people of Sarawak for so many years. You have make the natives poorer by robbing them of their lands. You have been making too many empty promises.

Sarawak 2011 - Vote for Change

  • This email is currently floating around in the cyberspace and it added more "fire" to the current Sarawak election campaign. At a glance it looks like an email from SIB (Sidang Injil Borneo)church which has the largest members in Sarawak. However it signed off as SIB..Sidang Injil Baru.

I firmly believed this is NOT from SIB(Sidang Injil Borneo) church as I know it will not get involved in politics.

  • However I agreed on the contents of this email. If more churches will to inform their congregations on the current situations in this country,I believe the outcome of this coming Sarawak election will turn against BN.
I paste and copy the content here: Sidang Injil Baru (SIB) Sarawak Surat Jemaat Kebebasan Beragama

  • Warisan Kristian kita sedang dipertaruhkan. Bertindaklah sekarang.

(Roma 13:11)

Kasih karunia dan damai sejahtera menyertai kamu.

Sidang Injil Baru (SIB) Sarawak Sri Aman 30 March 2011
