SIB Seremban-After the Attack Part 1

This is the message from our SIB Seremban church's pastor during the first Sunday service after our church was petrol bombed by fanatics.

His message was in the church bulletin and as follows:

BE STRONG

The night before our church's door was burned I was with the church leadership for our 1st leadership meeting for 2010.

Just before the meeting started, I shared from Haggai 2: 1-9:

...who is left among you who saw this temple in its former glory? And how do you see it now? In comparison with it, is this not in your eyes, as nothing? Yet now be strong, Zerubbabet,, says the LORD, and be strong, Joshua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest; and be strong, all you people of the land,', says the LORD, 'work; for I am with you, says the LORD of hosts. According;'to the word that I covenanted with you when you came out of Egypt, so My Spirit remains among you; do not fear.!' for thus says the LORD of hosts: 'Once more (it is a little while) I will shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land; 'and I will shake all nations, and they shall come to the Desire of All Nations, and I will fill this temple with glory; says the LORD of Hosts. 'The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine,' says the LORD of hosts. 'The Glory of this letter temple shall be greater than the former, 'says the LORD of hosts. 'And in this place I will give peace,'says the LORD of hosts."

I may not have enough space to expound everything in these verses, but I just want to highlight something which I feel the church need to know. God is speaking through the Prophet Haggai to the government (Zerubbabel), the Servant of God (Joshua) and Christians (people of the land) - to be strong! And continue to serve God for His is with us.

Secondly, God reminds us that He has made a covenant with us that 'His Spirit' remains among us in whatever situations may be. There is no reason for us to be fearful because He has assured to us that His presence will go before us — do not fear! "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind" (2 Tim.1:7).

Why God have to assured us that His Spirit remains among us and encouraged us to be strong, faithfully serve Him and not to be fearful is because of the 'shaking" that He would do to the heaven and earth, the sea and dry land. What has happened to our church is part and parcel of the `shaking'. The most wonderful things that could happen after every 'shaking' is this: 'they shall come to the Desire of All Nations, and I will fill this temple with Glory,'... the Glory of this letter temple shall be greater than the former, .. . and in this place I will give - peace (Haggai 2: 7& 9).

To God be all the Glory

My Arowana Is Dead.

My arowana of 6 years is dead.Cause of death unknown probably internal organ failure as the face was swollen for few days before.

We buried the arowana outside our house compound.

This Tiger fish of mine died few weeks ago.It has grown into a very big fish since I bought it about 4 years ago.

Now I have only one arowana and few other fish in 2 big aquarium.I also have another big empty aquarium outside my house.

Looks like I have to think of "new project"to refill my aquarium again.Wonder what type of fish to rear...?

My Next Marathon

My next marathon will be the Energizer Night Marathon on 27 March 2010.I have to forget about the Putrajaya Night Marathon because the registration was closed last Saturday.I did not know about this until last Monday when I decided to register for the run online.Seems like the organiser decided to close the registration earlier after they hit the 8,000 entries.I called the organiser but they said they would not accept more entries.

Feeling disappointed initially and blaming myself for not registering for the run earlier,I decided to take part in the Energizer Night Marathon instead. Now I will be more "kiasu" so I registered for the run earlier.I think I am the number 28 person registering for the full marathon in my age category based on my Bib No.2028.

So far Heng has registered while Lau and Woon will also register for the run soon.

NB Pacesetter 30km

This was my first race for year 2010 and also the race which I have the least preparation.I have not been running regularly since Singapore Marathon and I have doubt if I can do well in this 30km.

I only manage to sleep for 4 hours and woke up at 3.00am to get ready for this race which was supposed to start at 5.30am.Drove to Francis's house nearby as Woon,Lau and myself were hitching a ride in his car to Kuala Lumpur.

We reached Padang Merbok at 4.45am and parked the car near to the starting point. This was the first time I took part in this 30km event.

The race started at 5.30am sharp. There were a big crowd of runners for the 30km event, something which I did not expect.

The route for this race was hilly as mentioned in various blogs and as told to me by Yee and Heng.I still remember how Heng used to describe the suffering of having to endure the hilly route.Yee mentioned of many runners who complained to the organiser of the torturous route after the previous year events.

With so many negative remarks and warnings from previous runners,I was quite "scared" to run this 30km.So my approach to the race was to be conservative and not to exert myself too much during the run in order to conserve some energy for some unexpected steep hills or the famous "double hills".

Francis,Yee,Eric,Woon and myself were together at the beginning of the race.Very soon after the race started,Francis were ahead and "disappeared"in the crowd.Soon Eric also disappeared from my sight.I followed Yee and Woon about 10 metres apart.Soon the distance between us growth bigger and I decided not to chase after them.I was still cautious of many hills ahead.

The route took us to Sri Hartamas area and with lots of ups and downs along the way.I just ran my usual pace and keep looking out for distance markers but can't see any.Certain part of the route was very dark especially the route after the first water station.

I got my second ribbon at about 19km mark(I asked the volunteer for the distance since I can't locate any).I was prepared to conquer the famous "double hills" supposed to be after the 20km mark. This famous landmark was frequently mentioned by KL runners.I always wondered how steep was this "double hills",was it so tough?Yee reminded me not to over exert myself during the first 20km and to save some energy for the last tough 10km.

Finally I came to the "double hills"-I supposed it was the "double hills" as I had to run along some steep roads with some nice bungalows in the area. Not too tough...that was the feeling I got after going through the "double hills'.I was expecting something more challenging-some very long and steep road.Well,I was happy as I got through the "most difficult and fearful"route of the race without stopping or walking.

After the "double hills" I started to increase my pace as I knew the race would soon be over. Finally made it to the finishing point with a timing of 3 hours 6 minutes.I received a NB paper bag with some food samples, few buns, mineral water,a medal and a finisher NB T-shirt.

Overall I am quite satisfied with the timing and the race organisation. To all the first timer for the coming 30km events, the advice is:the"double-hills"was not so though...don't let it scares you.

The Seremban group results(unofficial...based on self timing):

1)Francis.......2 hours 33 minutes!!!......super fast!
2)Eric.............2 hours 46 minutes
3)Yee.............2 hours 56 minutes
4)Woon..........2 hours 59 minutes
5)Teh.............3 hours 10 minutes
6)Heng...........3 hours 15 minutes
7)Lau..............3 hours 16 minutes

and others...which I have not got their timing results.

**A very determine Mr.Singh...he took almost 4 hours to complete. He is very fit for his age.

Near to the finishing line...

Finally...made it across the finishing line.

To Run Or Not To Run??

This is the dilemma I am facing now...to run or not to run the first ever night run in Malaysia:The Putrajaya Night Marathon in about 3 weeks from now.

The main reason was lack of training after Singapore.I hardly run after this event. My fitness level is down.I eat a lot during the festive season and I have put on weight. My waist line is increasing and my pants are getting tighter to fit in.

The second reason was lack of response from fellow Seremban runners.Seems like none are interested to run for various personal reasons. The only person who have registered for the run was Heng.

I have the interest to participate but I fear I will have to struggle to complete the whole race with lack of training.Few days ago,one of my patient,Mr.Yesudian came over to hand me an entry form to the race.He persuaded me to join. Now I am in a dilemma..

After thinking for few days,I decided to take the coming NB Pacesetter 30km run on Sunday as a testing run to judge my fitness level. If I can finish it without much struggle then I will sign up for the Putrajaya Night Marathon otherwise I think I will have to skip it.

So,let's wait for Sunday and see the outcome...

SIB Seremban-Petrol Bombed!

This morning my wife phoned me while I was working informing me that our church-SIB Seremban was petrol bombed earlier today. This finally came true as I had a feeling of this event 2 days ago.I told my wife in a less serious manner, to inform our pastor to increase security and to monitor our church. However both of us did not take any action and totally forgot about it.

The attack was from the front main door. The fanatics tried to burn the main door using petrol but our church door was made to be fire resistant-supposed to last for 2 hours in an event of fire.

I went over to my church during lunch hours. There were still many people and cars there. At that time, the authority brought in two tracking dogs to smell for evidence.I stayed for about half an hour looking at the investigation teams doing their job and also mixing around with the crowd-mainly onlookers, reporters,TV stations staffs and our own church members.

The dog was sniffing at a sponge and a piece of cloth found at the scene. The damage was not great-only the door and part of the carpet. Luckily the fanatics did not attempt to break the glass panel on the first floor and throw in some petrol otherwise the damage will be worse.

Our church member-Joshua being interviewed by Astro Awani.Seems like he was the first person to notice the attack when he passed by the church on his way for his breakfast.

Since this is a high profile case and also a very sensitive issue involved, there were many high ranking police officers visiting the crime scene.I heard the NS Menteri Besar will also be visiting the church.

However...the damage has been done. This event has definitely damaged the relationship between different races in Malaysia.Maybe the ill feeling was not expressed openly but deep inside every Malaysian,I am sure there are some amount of prejudice and anger towards one another. It is a matter of time before this anger turns into.....

We are living in dangerous time...

Lousy Leader

Having a poor leader is bad for the country. Here is an example:

From The Star 7th January 2010:

KUALA LUMPUR: Muslim groups are free to protest and express their views about the "Allah" issue as long as it does not spill over into something more serious, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak

Najib added that the authorities could not stop groups from gathering at mosques and protesting there.

A leader who endorse street demonstrations on sensitive issues is a bad leader.Religion is a very sensitive issue in multi racial country like Malaysia and all leaders must know this.Allowing demonstrations against another religion in worship places are like pouring petrol over the fire.

A leader who can't stop groups from gathering and protesting is a weak leader because he can't command the respect and attention of people under him.

The leader should review and reflect upon his poor leadership.

From The Star online 8th January 2010:

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has condemned the attacks on the three churches in the Klang Valley.
"I condemn these actions because they will destroy our country's harmony," he told reporters Friday.
"The Government will take whatever steps it can to prevent such acts."
Najib said he has told the national police chief to step up security at churches and other places of worship
.

First endorsing then condemning...a hypocrite! You know it is dangerous and sensitive but yet you never act firmly before a disaster happen.

BAD Leadership!!

Dogs as Fishing Bait!!

I was surfing the Internet for techniques and places to go for fishing when I came across this gross story on how dogs and cats are being used as fishing baits!!

More articles can be found here:http://www.seashepherd.org/

Dogs and cats are also involved in an assault on nature, this time as victims and as bait. On the French island of La Reunion in the Indian Ocean, fishermen have been using live dogs and cats as bait for sharks.

This practice is specifically outlawed by French law but the law, as in many places throughout the world, is ignored by fishing communities who apparently believe they are above the law.
The dogs and cats have hooks passed through their snouts or through the tendons in their legs and the hooks are attached to lines and rods. The hapless animals are then tossed into the water where their struggles attract sharks.
I believe human are the worse and the most cruel life beings on this earth.
